Learn About Freelance Christmas Tree Shaping

• Independent contractors shape artificial Christmas trees in retail locations like Home Depot and BJ’s Wholesale.
• The project takes place in late September and October.
• Store assignments are based on location and availability.
• Trees can be shaped anytime the retailer is open, including evenings and weekends, during a specified window of time.
• Compensation is determined per store and varies by the size of the display. Pay is based on the number of tree tips, not the time spent in the store.
• The amount of time spent in the store varies, but most designers take 8 – 10 hours to complete a smaller display and 10 – 14 hours for larger displays.
• The project is tree shaping, not decorating.
• Floral and/or merchandising experience is strongly preferred, but not required.
• All candidates must pass a background check and drug screen required by the retailer, which includes a negative test for marijuana.
